STERLING POLICE DEPARTMENT
At 11:45 a.m. Miranda Christine New, 36, of Sterling, was arrested in the 300 block of Lincoln St. on charges of driving while license is restrained and operating an uninsured vehicle.
At 6:52 p.m. James Brady Allen, 47, of Sterling, was arrested in the 400 block of N. Third Ave. on a warrant out of Logan County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear.
At 12:56 a.m. Andrew William Thomas, 31, of Sterling, was arrested in the 300 block of Hays Ave. on charges of driving under the influence, DUI per se, eluding or attempting to elude police, obstructing a police officer, driving a vehicle with signal (lamps/devices) that failed to meet requirements, driving without insurance, violation of a protection order, vehicular eluding and driving with an open alcohol container in the vehicle.
At 12:56 a.m. Matthew Lee Haney, 30, of Beaver Creek, was arrested in the 300 block of Hays Ave. on a charge of obstructing a police officer.
At 2:37 p.m. police responded to the 400 block of S. Third Ave. for theft. Window shutters, 6 by 3-foot in size, valued at $240, were stolen.
At 7:28 p.m. Norene Alma Skraback, 48, of Sterling, was arrested in the 400 block of N. Third Ave. on charges of violation of a protection order, two counts of assault in the second degree on a police officer/firefighter, resisting arrest and violation/revocation of bail bond.
At 8:55 p.m. Penny Jo Stahla, 59, of Gillette, Wyo., was arrested in the 1100 block of S. 11th Ave. on charges of three counts of violation of a protection order, two counts of violation/revocation of bail bond, one count of driving under the influence, reckless driving and first degree criminal trespass of an auto.
At 6:32 p.m. Leisa Janell Jones, 41, of Sterling, was arrested in the 400 block of N. Third Ave. on a warrant out of Sterling Police Department for failure to appear – dangerous drugs.
At 11:41 a.m. police responded to the 200 block of King St. for trespassing.
At 7:48 p.m. Erica Nicole Weber, 34, of Sterling, was arrested in the 600 block of S. Eighth Ave. on a warrant out of SPD for failure to comply.
At 3:55 p.m. police responded to the 300 block of N. Seventh Ave. for vandalism/damage to property. There was a cut fence wire.
At 9:38 a.m. Samantha Louise Gamez, 30, of Sterling, was arrested, processed and released at SPD on a warrant out of SPD for failure to appear.
At 9:38 a.m. Melissa Michelle Woodside, 34, of Sterling, was arrested, processed and released at SPD on a warrant out of SPD for failure to appear. She was later arrested on a warrant out of Holyoke Police Department for failure to appear and a warrant out of Weld County Sheriff’s Office for failure to comply, and transported to the Logan County Jail.
At 7:46 p.m. Joseph Marion Anzick, 53, of Sterling, was arrested in the 400 block of Cleveland St. on two warrants out of Sterling Municipal Court for failure to appear.
At 10 p.m. Casey Ryan Dempcy, 38, of Sterling, was arrested in the 200 block of Wells St. on a warrants out of Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Morgan County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear.
At 10:51 a.m. a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by John Bortner, 51, of Akron, was, traveling westbound, was attempting to turn off W. Main St., when the driver side collided with the front driver side of a 2013 Ram 1500, driven by Lewis Ellsworth, 75, of Sterling. No injuries were reported. The Chevrolet sustained slight damage and the Ram sustained moderate damage.
At 11:25 p.m. police responded to the 500 block of California Street for vandalism/damage to property. A city of Sterling rollout trash can was damaged.
At 3:29 p.m. a 1989 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Damond Jerome, 21, of Sterling, backed out of a driveway onto Kings Ct. and collided rear to rear with a parked 2011 GMC Sierra, owned by Rocio Cardenas-Pulido, of Sterling. The collision caused the driver’s side door of the Jeep to fall off. No injuries were reported. The Jeep sustained severe damage and the GMC sustained slight damage.
At 11:37 a.m. a 2010 Ford F-450, driven by Michael Shonka, 72, of Sterling, was stopped facing eastbound while waiting to turn left in the intersection of N. Second Ave. and W. Broadway St. A 2008 MotoBravo 50CC, driven by a Sterling minor, was traveling eastbound on W. Broadway St., when it collided with the Ford’s rear. No injuries were reported. The scooter sustained moderate damage. There was no damage to the Ford. The Sterling minor was cited for low power scooter failure to obey Article 4.
At 11:24 a.m. the front of a 1999 Buick Century, driven by Modesta Stoops, 89, of Sterling, traveling west in the 300 block of Poplar St. at the intersection with N. Fourth St., collided with the rear passenger side of a 2006 Chevy Colbalt, driven by Joshua Harshman, 19, of Wray. After contact, the Buick was pushed turning the vehicle 180 degrees, after which the vehicle came to rest in the south grass area of 203 N. Fourth St. The Chevy turned right and came to rest on Poplar St. A passenger in the Buick reported minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. Stoops was cited for failure to grant the right of way.
At 6 p.m. a 2013 Chevrolet Cruz, driven by Dennis Pappas, 71, of Littleton, drove through the intersection of Lincoln St. and Third Ave., causing the front of a 1992 Chevrolet 1500, driven by Daniel Martindale, 43, of Sterling, to collide with the Cruz’s side. Pappas said he did not see the stop sign and did not see the other vehicle approaching. Pappas reported minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained severe damage. Pappas was cited for failure to stop at a stop intersection.
At 12 p.m. Frank Monroe Chorak, 35, of Denver, was transported to the Logan County Jail after being arrested by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant out of SPD for possession of schedule I/II controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule I/II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of four or more financial devices, theft – $5,000 to $20,000, and criminal possession of ID documents.
