On June 29, Millburn police responded to a Cypress Street residence to investigate reports of a burglary. The victim told police that sometime overnight someone forcibly pushed in the back door and took a purse, laptop and iPhone from the kitchen.
On June 27, police stopped the driver of a 2015 Honda Civic on Kennedy Parkway near the Parsonage Hill Road bridge for maintenance of lamps. The investigation led to the arrest of the 32-year-old driver, a Somerset man, for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Police released the man with a summons.
Police stopped the driver of a 2005 GMC Yukon on White Oak Ridge Road at the intersection with Keats Road on July 4 for improper use of high beams, according to police, who said the investigation led to the arrest of an 18-year-old township man for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, marijuana. Police released the teen with a summons.
On July 4, police pulled over a 2000 Honda Civic traveling eastbound on Route 24 for having no front plate and no inspection sticker, police said. The investigation led to the arrest of two 31-year-old men, one from Irvington, the other from Newark, for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, marijuana, police said. Both men were released with summonses.
On June 28, police responded to the Neiman Marcus store at The Mall at Short Hills where store personnel reported 13 articles of clothing valued at $48,100 were taken between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.
Police were called to the Shoprite store on Main Street on June 29 where Shoprite personnel reported a 47-year-old Newark man was in the store and who, according to police, had shoplifted on two previous occasions, and had concealed three items valued at $27.97 in his pocket. Police arrested the man, charged him with three counts of shoplifting, and remanded him to the Essex County Correctional Facility.
On July 1, police responded to the Gucci store at the mall on a theft report. Gucci personnel told police a black male wearing a green shirt and white/grey pants, and a black female wearing a khaki shirt and black pants, concealed three belts valued at $1,090 in a bag and left the store without making payment.
Police were called to the Gucci store on July 4, where employees reported a black female wearing a scarf on her head, dark-colored shirt and black shorts concealed a scarf valued at $420 in her purse and left the store without paying.
On June 28, police were called to the J parking lot at the mall to investigate reports of an individual with a shopping bag hiding between vehicles. An officer found an 18-year-old man from China hiding between vehicles, police said. The teen fled, but was apprehended in K lot and found to be in possession of 10 counterfeit credit cards and two items valued at $3,227.63 purchased fraudulently at Neiman Marcus, police said. Police arrested the man, who was charged with obstruction, forgery and theft by deception before being released with a summons.

A police officer patrolling the Trader Joe’s parking lot off Millburn Avenue noticed a 60-year-old Millburn man sleeping while slumped over a shopping cart, police said. According to reports, the officer awakened the man and while speaking with him, the man threw a cut straw with heroin residue on the ground. Police said the man was also found to be in possession of heroin and was placed under arrest. Police charged him with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia before releasing him with a summons.
On July 4, a police officer noticed two men on South Terrace at 2:51 a.m. and pulled over to speak to them, according to police. Police said one of the men, a 24-year-old from Jersey City, was found to have an active criminal warrant out of Jersey City and was placed under arrest. Police turned him over to the Jersey City Police Department.
